Climate Change
Fossil fuels burned in cars and trucks, in homes and businesses, and in factories along
with increased agriculture, deforestation, and landfills combine to flood the atmosphere
while destroying its self correcting capabilities. Several emissions scenarios have been
developed based on differing projections of these underlying factors. For example, by
2100, in the absence of emissions control policies, carbon dioxide concentrations are
projected to be 30-150% higher than today’s levels. (Courtesy of the US EPA)
According to scientists, the earth’s surface temperature has risen by about 1 degree
Fahrenheit in the past century with the largest increase occurring during the last 20
years. The evidence indicates that human activity has contributed greatly to the
warming by altering the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of
greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. In just over 100 years
the atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide have increased nearly 30%.
Scientists believe that the combustion of fossil fuels and other human activities are the
primary reason for the increased concentration of carbon dioxide. The United States
generates about one-fifth of global greenhouse gases.
- turn off lights as you leave a room
- turn down the thermostat at night
- turn off your computer monitor and other electronics when unattended
- change your household lights to compact fluorescent lights
- install motion sensitive lights where applicable
- weatherstrip your doors and windows properly
- install a programmable thermostat
Carbon Caring will offset your carbon dioxide emissions through carbon sequestration. Review
our offset options and purchase carbon offsets that fit your lifestyle.
Global warming is no longer up for debate and too few people are acting to make a difference. Two simple and easy
ways to fight global warming are to reduce your greenhouse gas output and to offset your remaining carbon
footprint.
Everyone must make an effort to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions as well as you can.
Because YOU can make a difference
